Some of the best athletes in Canada are in Severn Township this week to show their stuff at an up-and-coming sport. These athletes are visiting the region for their chance to play cornhole. The visitors have travelled from around the country to fight for a national title and cash prizes in five divisions. A popular party activity for most, competitors say cornhole is no game to them. “This is becoming a sport, and I feel that this is a sport,” said Cornhole Canada vice president Sebastian Gianino. “100% it’s a sport because you have to compete; you have to compete at your best and the mental aspect of the game is like playing a game of golf or playing any other sport,” Gianino said. The Canadian National Cornhole Championship runs until Sunday at the Orillia and District Agricultural Society Park.
