Over the next five years, Bradford West Gwillimbury will get a financial boost to its transit services from the provincial government. The officer of the Minister of Transportation, Prabmeet Sarkaria, announced the investment of $4 million on Wednesday. According to the minister’s office, the money will go toward expanding transit by creating more services the local transit system can offer and more job opportunities. “Reliable transit makes a real difference in the everyday lives of our residents, whether it’s getting to work, accessing essential services or simply staying connected to our community,” said Bradford West Gwillimbury Mayor James Leduc. “This funding will help us develop transit solutions that are practical, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of our residents for years to come,” Leduc added. Additionally, the province claims the money will help create an integrated fare system between transit in Bradford West Gwillimbury and Simcoe County LINX service, which connects Bradford to nearby municipalities such as Barrie, Wasaga Beach, Orillia, Collingwood, Penetanguishene and Midland. The funding comes to Bradford as part of the Ontario Transit Investment Fund, which aims to invest a total of $30 million in transit systems across rural Ontario communities over the next three years.
