Police report numerous complaints of snowmobilers ignoring stop signs

OPP are reminding snowmobilers to follow trail signage after reportedly receiving numerous complaints about riders not stopping at stop signs along the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail system.

According to Southern Georgian Bay OPP, fines for disobeying stop signs could reach as high as $110.

Riders are reminded that even the smallest cars are larger than most snowmobiles and should therefore come to a full stop and look both ways at stop signs.

Officers from Southern Georgian Bay OPP have reportedly checked more than 300 snowmobiles from February 12 to this past Thursday for equipment, licensing and trail passes. They also held 12 different RIDE programs to check for signs of impairment.

No crashes were reported during that timeframe, but OPP say 25 riders were issued warnings and 17 were charged with a variety of Motorized Snow Vehicle Act (MSVA) offences.
