Innisfil’s Stroud Arena to remain closed for remainder of ice season

Further investigation revealed the interior wall needs significant remediation.

Innisfil’s Stroud Arena will remain closed for the remainder of the ice season, town officials confirm.

“Further investigation of the Stroud Arena has revealed a structural issue with an interior wall that requires significant remediation,” says the town.

Engineers identified shifting in the wall located in the main lobby adjacent to the ice pad. As a precaution, the arena lobby, ice pad, and banquet hall closed.

The town says bookings up to Feb. 22 were cancelled or rebooked elsewhere to help community groups plan their programs.

“Buildings of this age can make repairs more complex, and we’re taking the time to do this work carefully and responsibly,” the town says in a recent statement.

The Stroud Branch of the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library and the Stroud Curling Club are not affected, as engineers have confirmed those areas are safe to use.

Town officials anticipate that the closure could extend beyond March 31, but the estimated timeline will be based on council’s direction at the Feb. 11 meeting.
