Provincial police are investigating a crash in Scugog Township early Sunday morning that resulted in one death and two suffering serious injuries. According to Toronto OPP, officers were called to a two-vehicle crash at around 6 a.m. on Highway 7/12 near 4th Line in Port Perry. Police say their initial findings claim that it was a head-on collision with both vehicles travelling in opposite directions at the time of the crash. Emergency crews pronounced a 53-year-old Sunderland man dead on scene. A 32-year-old Innisfil man was hospitalized with injuries that were reportedly ‘serious’ but ‘non-life-threatening’ and a 35-year-old Toronto man was airlifted to a trauma centre with injuries that were deemed serious. Both directions of Highway 7/12 were closed in the area as OPP technical collision investigators and a reconstructionist worked on the scene. The area has since reopened. Anyone who witnessed the crash and anyone with footage that can help the ongoing investigation is asked to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
