Innisfil declares Significant Weather Event as squalls continue

The Town of Innisfil declared a Significant Weather Event in response to the dangerous amount of snow, icy roads and high winds experienced during the last few days.

Residents are asked to take extra caution and postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve.

When visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for taillights ahead and be prepared to stop.

During a Significant Weather Event, Innisfil’s winter services don’t change.

However, residents can expect winter clearing services to take longer to complete with a focus on primary roads followed by secondary routes.

Declaring a Significant Weather Event under Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards (MMS) suspends the standard timelines required for municipalities to meet their maintenance objectives.

Overnight parking restrictions are in place on Innisfil’s roads between midnight and 7 a.m. to assist with snow clearing operations.

Town staff ask that when residents clear their snow, to not shovel it onto the street.

As a result of the conditions, recreation centres will close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, as will the three branches of the Innisfil IdeaLAB & Library.

An update will be shared on the town’s website and social media channels once the declaration has been lifted.
