An owl spotted lingering on a residential porch in Innisfil, Ont., for nearly 24 hours turned out to be in distress, says Simcoe County Emergency Animal Response.

The situation unfolded when a concerned resident reported that the owl had been sitting on their porch for a while and showed no signs of leaving the area.

By the time responders arrived, the bird had taken off, but conversations with Innisfil neighbours revealed a more troubling pattern. The owl was observed walking on the ground and had not been seen flying.

The team says they conducted a search of the surrounding area, which brought them to the injured bird. Observing from a distance, they noted the owl attempted to fly away but was unable to leave the ground.

The owl was safely contained by responders and taken to a licensed wildlife rehabilitation centre, where it will undergo a full assessment.

Officials say this outcome highlights the importance of community awareness and quick action from residents.

The team says the community is encouraged to report unusual animal behaviour, particularly when wild animals appear injured or unable to move.
