The Indigenous Summer Fine Arts and Crafts Market made its way to Barrie over the weekend. The market originally takes place in Thunder Bay each year with Organizer John Ferris wanting to expand into the Simcoe County region. “What we’re trying to do is create more like a marketing strategy for the Aboriginal artists to give them a chance to do some networking and more prosperity in that sense,” said Ferris. Hundreds of items were on display at Eastview Arena with more than 10 vendors taking part in the show. “It creates more Indigenous cultural art awareness and it’s really important for us and for the people and also even for the younger generations,” said Ferris. “So they’re creating their own art nowadays.” The market will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday June 21.
