Avid golfers and members of Shanty Bay Golf Club came together on Saturday to honour former member Archie Thompson. Dave Eveleigh, golf course manager, said they wanted to honour Thompson while giving back to the community and decided to support the Barrie Food Bank. “Archie is a guy who used to be a member here and he used to be an employee here and, he died here about 15 years ago,” said Eveleigh. “So we have this tournament in his honor. Also this year, we partnered with the Barrie Food Bank, and the outpouring has been amazing over the last ten days.” Eveleigh added the support has been amazing and hopes the event becomes an annual tournament. More than $1000 was raised for the foodbank along with eight bins of food donations. CEO of the Barrie Food Bank Karen Shuh said it was great to see the community come out to remember Thompson and make a significant donation to the foodbank. “Donations come in every form, and it just is another way that you can contribute,” said Shuh. “So, every swing, every sponsorship, every drop of food that gets provided, makes sure that there’s nutritious food going to people in our community.” Shanty Bay Gold Club also donated $300 to the cause.
