Gold medalist Megan Oldham gifts young skiers with free lift tickets

Olympic gold medalist Megan Oldham from Parry Sound returned to her home ski hill, Mount St. Louis Moonstone and brought with her free lift tickets for youth.

After soaring to gold in freestyle skiing at the Olympics last month, Parry Sound native Megan Oldham headed back to where it all began at her training grounds of Mount St. Louis Moonstone.

The resort partnered with Oldham to give young people the opportunity to ski for free.

Oldham gave away 250 free night lift tickets to the ski hill, which are valid until March 21, 2027.

She posed for hundreds of photos with her fans and even signed autographs.

“It was really cool to meet her because I’ve never met someone from the Olympics before,” said fan Arley Unwin.

Oldham expressed how grateful she was to spend the special day with her fans.

“I think, honestly, that’s my favorite about all this, just seeing the youth and how excited they are to just come and meet me and they are just getting inspired and excited watching sport,” Oldham said. “It’s really cool to see that fire in the younger generation.”

She even let some of them take turns wearing her gold medal.

Mount St. Louis hosted the event on Wednesday in the Oak Room Louis Chalet with free food and hot chocolate, plus the opportunity to meet Oldham in person.

Oldham was raised on the slopes of Mount St. Louis and spent a lot of time learning at The Junkyard Terrain Park at the resort.

“I think that is the biggest message, that coming out of such a small town, driving an hour every time I want to come skiing,” said Oldham. “I think it just shows the younger kids that if they really want something like that and they work hard towards it, it can happen.”

The resort said it plans to name a run or jump in honour of Oldham and her achievements.

Oldham soared to gold at the winter Olympics in Italy last month. She also came home with a bronze medal earlier in the competition.
