Woman charged with murder in 2023 fatal shooting in mall parking lot

Police charged a woman with first-degree murder in the death of a man in a Penetanguishene mall parking lot.

Just over two years ago, Jesse Deschamps, 30, was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Village Square Mall in Penetanguishene.

The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, have been working on the case since the July 27, 2023 shooting.

On Monday, police charged Danika Lawrie, a 32-year-old Penetanguishene woman with first-degree murder, mischief over $5,000, and obstructing a peace officer.

Lawrie is in custody pending a bail hearing, and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie at a later date.

The OPP is continuing the investigation in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
