Driver nabbed doing double the speed limit: OPP

Huntsville provincial police were patrolling on Highway 60 Tuesday around 9 p.m. when they saw a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

Huntsville OPP confirmed the speed to be more than double the posted 70 kilometres per hour speed limit.

As a result, a 27-year-old Oakville man was charged with stunt driving, had his vehicle impounded for two weeks and received a 30-day suspension.

He has a court date at the Provincial Offenses Court in Bracebridge Ontario in June.

In Ontario, stunt driving charges apply if you drive 40 km/h or more over the limit on roads with a limit under 80 km/h. They apply if you drive 50 km/h or more over on roads limited to 80 km/h or higher, or any speed of 150 km/h or higher.

This immediately results in a 30-day license suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment

Police say speeding contributes to loss of life on our roads. In 2025, there were 75 deaths on Ontario Roads that were attributed to speeding.
