Barrie City Hall is bringing back an annual tradition as Remembrance Day draws closer. City’s Hall’s rotunda is now lined with 38 banners featuring photos of 441 Huronia Wing members. The banners are put up every year to honour those from the region who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Many of them include veterans of the Second World War and some honorary military members. “A lot of members of the air force trained in Canada as members of the British Commonwealth air training plan,” said Jean-Maurice Pigeon, a member of the RCAF 441 Huronia Wing. “If this project at least sparks a little bit of interest in the visitors to know a little bit more about what we actually did, what these people did and what sacrifices they made that we’ve achieved our goal,” Pigeon says. The banners will be on display in the rotunda until the end of the month, then back again next year.
