Century old bridge to be replaced in Bracebridge

The Town of Bracebridge says a local piece of infrastructure is long overdue for a touch-up.

According to the town, Purbrook Road Bridge is more than 100 years old and an inspection in 2024 determined the bridge to be in poor condition.

As a result, it will be replaced this year.

The current structure has a load restriction of 15 tonnes and the town says a full replacement is required to ensure it can be safely used going forward.

The town says it plans to build over and behind the current structure so that it can remain functional until it’s no longer needed.

Bracebridge says during construction residents can expect overnight full road closures (including for emergency services), delays in traffic, restricted access at times and night work as required.

Construction begins in July and is scheduled to end in October.
