A Barrie man’s luck changed when he matched six of seven numbers in the Encore draw, netting him a cool $100,000 prize. Rogelio Oranza, a married father of three, was over the moon when he discovered he had won the Lotto 6/49 draw on June 14. “I was in complete shock and couldn’t stop smiling,” Oranza said during a visit to the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his winnings. Oranza, who works in manufacturing, had purchased the winning ticket at Zel on Cundles Road West in Barrie. He typically plays the lottery three times a week using OLG’s Quick Pick feature and adds Encore to his tickets for an extra $1. Oranza has been playing the lottery for 11 years and couldn’t believe his eyes when he checked his ticket at a gas station. He said he asked the clerk to double-check. “I instantly called my wife to share the news,” he said. “Of course, she couldn’t believe what I was telling her.” The $100,000 windfall will go towards a down payment on a home, a dream come true for Oranza and his family. “This is such a big moment for me and my family,” he beamed. “Winning is just a great feeling. I hope to be back here at the OLG Prize Centre someday.” ENCORE offers 22 ways to win and can be added to most lottery games for an extra dollar, with two draws daily.
