The Barrie Colts will celebrate former player and two-time Stanley Cup winner, Kyle Clifford by retiring his #13 Colts jersey during a special ceremony. Clifford, who played three seasons with the Colts from 2007 to 2010, appeared in 184 games, according to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Drafted 37th overall in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection, Clifford made a special impact, finishing his rookie season with 15 points and 83 penalty minutes—only missing two games the entire season, the Colts shared. In his NHL Draft year, he tallied 16 goals and 12 assists before being selected 35th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2009 NHL Draft. According to the organization, Clifford capped off his OHL career in 2010 with an impressive 57 points (28 goals, 29 assists) and 111 penalty minutes. According to the OHL, Clifford went on to play 753 NHL games with the Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and St. Louis Blues. He captured two Stanley Cups with Los Angeles. “Kyle Clifford defines what it means to be an underdog,” said Colts owner and president Howie Campbell. “His unmatched work ethic, both in Barrie and professionally, has led to an incredible 15-year career and two Stanley Cups. Most recently, Clifford has been part of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, spending time with both the Leafs and the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. The team will honor him at the Saginaw Spirit at Sadlon Arena in Barrie. Tickets for the Feb., 27 game are on sale now.
