Just in time for Mother’s Day, a baby Great Horned owl has been reunited with its mother after a windy day blew the nest down and brought along baby with it. On Thursday, Procyon Wildlife in Beeton partnered with Simcoe County Emergency Animal Response (SCEAR) and Raven Tree Care to get the owlet back in its nest and the nest back in the tree where it was. The call came in from the property owners where the tree was located in Midhurst. The complex rescue involved a number of apparatuses including a drone and a pully system. Fortunately, after a quick physical exam, the wildlife sanctuary said the owlet didn’t seem to be injured. One of the team members created a new nest made up of sticks, branches and leaves inside a wooden bucket. With helpers both on the ground and in the tree and by using a pully system, the owlet was placed into the makeshift nest and then hoisted back up into the tree. The team said it was able to get the nest up quite close to its original location. SCEAR used its drone to help find food routes and to make sure there were no other stranded baby owls. The owlet was successfully returned to its family who the sanctuary said had its eyes closely on the rescue the whole time.
