78-year-old charged after alleged drugs found during Highway 400 traffic stop

A 78-year-old man is facing multiple criminal charges after a late-night traffic stop on Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township.

Bracebridge police say the arrest followed a proactive patrol shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday. An officer stopped a southbound vehicle along Highway 400 and began a Highway Traffic Act investigation, which quickly escalated into a criminal matter.

Police allege the driver was found in possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime valued at more than $5,000, as well as a substance identified as an opioid. The man was also charged with two counts of driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act.

The 78-year-old from Mississauga, was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing. Police say he appeared before court to answer to his charges.
