PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - A Saskatchewan court has heard how a baby born in a Wal-Mart toilet was almost full term and weighed just over six pounds.

Dr. Ayaz Ramji has testified he treated the baby boy after he was found in the department store washroom in Prince Albert, Sask., on May 21, 2007.

He says the infant, about one month premature, was cold and needed help breathing, but managed to survive his bizarre entry into the world.

April Halkett, 22, admits to giving birth in the Wal-Mart, but has pleaded not guilty to child abandonment.

The Crown is expected to wrap up its case today.

Defence lawyer Ajay Krishan says he plans to call an expert witness Wednesday to testify about how some women can experience unusually fast labour that lasts less than three hours.
