A pair of Nova Scotia siblings is turning their lifelong fascination with ghost stories into a hit podcast. Evan and Chelsea Carr Kinnear, who grew up in Fall River, N.S., are the creators and co-hosts of “It Came From the Maritimes” — a weekly show exploring Atlantic Canada’s rich and often chilling folklore. “I just always found it was kind of fun being scared,” Chelsea says. “Halloween was my favourite holiday, so ghost stories were a way to keep it going year-round.” The podcast covers everything from haunted lighthouses and secret tunnels to lesser-known Maritime myths — including a werewolf in Lunenburg and a vampire legend in Ingonish. “A lot of people are enjoying the podcast. A lot of people like to come in and they’re inspired to tell us their own stories as well, which is great,” said Evan. Episodes are recorded at The Drum Room in Three Fathom Harbour and released every Wednesday on major streaming platforms. The pair also shares bonus “Maritime Minis” every other week, featuring bite-sized tales from around the region. For the Carr Kinnears, the goal is to entertain while preserving a unique part of East Coast culture. “I hope they get a little bit scared. Not too scared.
