Youth hit, seriously injured while crossing P.E.I. road to board school bus

Police are investigating a crash outside Charlottetown Thursday morning that left a young pedestrian with serious injuries.

Queens District RCMP, Island EMS and North Shore Fire Department were dispatched to a 911 call in Dunstaffnage just before 8 a.m.

Police say a youth over the age of 12 was hit by a dump truck while crossing Route 2 to get on a school bus.

The RCMP says it appears the bus was slowing down to make a regular stop in the area when the crash happened.

The youth was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries.

A section of Route 2 was closed to all traffic while an RCMP collision analyst attended the scene. It has since reopened.

Police say it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
