Police say they continue to investigate the homicides of two people in a remote part of P.E.I. more than year ago. The RCMP responded to a report of shots fired on Route 125, the Hackmatack Road, around 8 p.m. on Aug. 8, 2025. Police describe the area as a “very sparsely populated rural dirt road.” When police arrived on scene, they discovered a vehicle had crashed into a ditch and struck a telephone pole. The driver, a 35-year-old man, had been shot and died at the scene. A 50-year-old woman was badly injured and taken to hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Police say both deaths are being investigated as homicides and they believe it was a targeted incident. “These types of incidents are uncommon in our province, and we take this investigation very seriously,” said Cpl. Gavin Moore, media relations officers with the P.E.I. RCMP, in an update Tuesday. “People are curious and want to know more about this incident. I thank the public for their patience as we cannot share all the details of an investigation like this as it may compromise the investigation. Ultimately our goal is to hold those who commit crimes like this accountable.” Police continue to ask anyone with information that could help solve the case to contact the West Prince RCMP at 902-853-9300 or East Prince RCMP at 902-436-9300. Anyone who was travelling in the area of Hackmatack and Taddy roads between 7:50 p.m. and 8:10 p.m. on Aug. 8 and has photos or videos from the scene can upload them anonymously to the community portal.
