PEI Humane Society asking for donations after 43 dogs seized

Prince Edward Island’s only animal shelter is asking for donations after a large seizure last week.

Animal protection officers seized 43 dogs under the Animal Welfare Act on Thursday.

The PEI Humane Society says the investigation is ongoing and can’t provide additional information.

“Our community has rallied around us in ways we could not have imagined. We can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity and support during a challenging time,” reads a post on the shelter’s Facebook page.

“For those who have asked how they can help, we have some specific needs right now that we would appreciate help with. Many local partners and businesses have stepped in to fill gaps but there are still a few needs we are looking to fill.”

The shelter says it is looking for the following:

• newspapers (not flyers)
• male belly bands, reusable or disposable (size medium)
• Palmolive dish soap (large 4.27L jugs are preferred)
• Mr. Clean
• paper towels

The shelter says it will accept donations toward veterinary care, which can be done via e-transfer or their website.
