Long-term care capacity in Prince Edward Island’s Prince County is set to grow with the addition of a new 60-bed facility in Summerside. Enhanced Living has been selected to develop the private facility, which will help accommodate growing demand for long-term care services on the Island. “As our communities continues to grow, and so does the need for long-term care. This is an important investment that will help more Island seniors receive high-quality care close to home while supporting families across western PEI,” said Premier Rob Lantz in a news release from the government. The province says it will support the construction and operation of the new home, as well as covering residents’ health-care costs and accommodation subsidies up to $7.4 million annually for 30 years. “As Summerside continues to grow, so does the need for high-quality health care services that support residents at every stage of life,” said Summerside Mayor Dan Kutcher in the release. “This new long-term care home will allow more older adults to stay close to the people and places they know best, while creating meaningful employment opportunities and further strengthening Summerside as a hub for health care in western Prince Edward Island.” Long-term care services on P.E.I. are delivered through nine public and 11 private long-term care homes, according to the province.
