Man charged after P.E.I. RCMP seizes ‘weapons parts’ and ‘trap device’ designed to cause harm

A man is facing weapons charges after police say they seized two firearms, “several weapons parts,” and a trap designed to harm someone in Elmsdale, P.E.I.

Prince District RCMP, RCMP Police Dog Services, and the Joint Forces Operations team recently executed a search warrant at a home in the community.

“During the search police found several partially intact firearms,” said the RCMP in a news release Thursday.

“A search of an outdoor shed also revealed an improvised trap device designed to cause serious bodily harm.”

Police say a national RCMP weapons team that inspected two firearms seized during the search determined them to be a 22-calibre long gun and a 12-gauge shotgun that had its barrel sawed off and serial number tampered with, making it a prohibited weapon.

Clint David Hardy was arrested and is facing the following charges:

• two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm
• unsafe storage of firearms
• tampering with the serial number of a firearm
• possession of a trap likely to cause bodily harm

Hardy was set to appear in Summerside provincial court on Thursday.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
