The man who pleaded guilty to killing Sharif Rahman outside his Owen Sound restaurant in August 2023 will learn his sentence Friday morning. Robert Evans Jr. is expected to be sentenced to 42 months behind bars after pleading guilty to throwing the punch that ultimately killed Rahman. It’s expected the judge will follow the joint sentencing submission put forward by both the Crown and defence, following Evan Jr.’s guilty plea to manslaughter last month in an Owen Sound courtroom. Evans Jr.’s father and uncle both pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact for helping Evans Jr. flee the country after punching Rahman. They were sentenced to 21 months in jail, but since they’ve already served that much time in pre-trial custody, they will be deported and released back in their home country of Great Britain. If he is sentenced to 42 months in jail, Evans Jr. will only spend another seven months behind bars here in Canada before being deported and released in Britain as well, because he’s served so much time in pre-trial custody. The sentencing case is expected to conclude Friday morning in Owen Sound.
