A resurfacing project on the Confederation Bridge is now set to start over the weekend. The work was originally set to begin on Friday. It has since been moved to Saturday. A post on the bridge’s website early Friday morning says certain classes of vehicles are restricted from crossing between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island until the high wind situation changes. “Restricted classes include automobiles towing trailers, motorcycles, highsided vehicles including trucks, tractor trailers, recreational vehicles, and buses,” the advisory reads. Once resurfacing work starts, people are being asked to plan extra travel time and consider peak periods, which are typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. One lane of traffic will be open at all times and lights and bridge control personnel will manage traffic flow. Reduced speed limits will also be in place through the work zone. The bridge warns delays of 30 minutes to an hour may be possible. The project is part of the bridge’s long-term maintenance program and is expected to continue through late June. For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
