Wildfire in Colchester County under control: DNRR

A wildfire in Nova Scotia’s Colchester County that prompted an evacuation is now under control according to the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables (DNRR).

Five DNRR firefighters remain on scene working alongside the Valley Kemptown Fire Department.

The department tells CTV News the fire is approximately three hectares in size.

A DNRR helicopter was temporarily diverted from a search effort in Pictou County to drop water on the fire. The helicopter has since returned to the search.

“The Valley Kemptown Fire Department issued a notice of evacuation for some area homes out of an abundance of caution,” reads an email to CTV News from DNRR.

That evacuation order has since been rescinded.

The Nova Scotia RCMP says it received a request from a partner agency to assist with evacuations in the 400 block of Old Pictou Road in Manganese Mines.
