Susies Lake wildfire ‘fully extinguished’: N.S. Department of Natural Resources

The Susies Lake wildfire, in the Bayers Lake area of Halifax, has been fully extinguished, according to Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The wildfire, which began burning on the afternoon of Aug. 12, was in the woods behind Julius Boulevard and Dugger McNeil Drive.

At one point, the wildfire was estimated to be about 25 to 30 hectares in size.

“Many thanks to our DNR ground and air crews, Halifax Fire and Emergency crews, and other partners who helped manage this wildfire,” reads a social media post by DNR.

The cause is still under investigation, but the province confirmed earlier this month it was started by human activity.

The Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre, which offers medical services and clinics, and several businesses were evacuated for a couple of days as DNR ground and air crews and Halifax Fire and Emergency crews worked on the wildfire.
