A medium-security federal institution in Nova Scotia has been on lockdown for five days as part of an ongoing search. Correctional Service Canada says the Springhill Institution was put under lockdown on Friday to facilitate a search. Visits to the site have been suspended for the time being. “The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is committed to preventing the entry of contraband and unauthorized items into its institutions,” a news release reads. “CSC works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.” CSC says normal operations will resume when it is “considered safe to do so.” Springhill has a nearly two-week lockdown earlier this year after three inmates were assaulted.
