It’s an extra long March Break for some students in Nova Scotia following a spring snowfall. Weather alerts Special weather statements are in place along the Atlantic coast of the province. Up to 10 cm is expected from Shelburne County through to Halifax. Up to 15 cm is possible from east of Porters Lake through to Sydney. The alerts say higher amounts can be expected near the coast. Environment Canada says the light snow will intensify in the afternoon and last until Monday night or Tuesday morning. Strong north to northeasterly winds are also expected, which could reduce visibility in blowing snow. There are no weather alerts in place for New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. However, CTV Atlantic meteorologist Kalin Mitchell says parts of southwest New Brunswick could pick up 5-to-10 cm of snow, while P.E.I. will see 2-to-5 cm of snow. School closures All schools in Nova Scotia’s Shelburne County and the South Shore are closed. Many schools in the Strait region and Cape Breton will dismiss students early. Travel Due to forecasted weather conditions, Marine Atlantic anticipates potential schedule impacts to the following Monday sailings: The ferry service is also warning of potential delays for the following Tuesday sailings: The Tancook Ferry in Chester, N.S., is also warning of service disruptions. Forecasted high winds on the Bay of Fundy have cancelled the following Fundy Rose sailings for Monday: Bay Ferries says service will resume Tuesday morning. Parking ban The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) says enforcement of the overnight winter parking ban has been lifted in both Zone 1 – Central and Zone 2 – Non-Central. “Crews remain active in all areas.
