A Cape Breton Regional Police officer has been charged after he allegedly got into a fight at a craft beer festival in November. The Serious Incident Response Team charged Const. Charles Maurice Bourgeois with assault Thursday, following an investigation. He will appear in provincial court in Sydney, N.S., on May 1. CBRP contacted SiRT on Nov. 29 after the alleged altercation involving the off-duty officer on Nov. 28, 2025, at a craft beer festival in Sydney. The officer was allegedly speaking to a man when a fight began between them. Police were called and the man was brought to hospital to be treated for head injuries, said SiRT in a news release at the time. “Due to the injuries sustained and in the public interest, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation,” said the release. The director of the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) said Thursday there are reasonable grounds to believe Bourgeois committed assault.
