Police ticketed 670 ‘aggressive drivers’ over Thanksgiving weekend in Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia RCMP issued 670 summary offence tickets to aggressive drivers over the Thanksgiving weekend, according to a news release on Wednesday.

The holiday ticketing came as part of a national traffic safety initiative focused on reducing serious injuries and fatalities on Canadian roads by targeting risky driving behaviours.

Through “Operation Impact,” officers in the province also:

• checked 8,918 vehicles at 110 checkpoints across the province
• dedicated more than 1,800 hours to traffic enforcement
• laid 23 criminal charges related to impaired driving
• issued 14 roadside suspensions related to impaired driving
• issued 670 tickets for aggressive driving offences
• issued 14 tickets for seatbelt offences
• issued 10 tickets for distracted driving offences.

Operation Impact is co-ordinated each year by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.

“Traffic safety is a shared responsibility,” says RCMP Insp. Jeff Mitchell in the news release. “Every one of these enforcement actions represents an opportunity to prevent a serious collision before it happens.”
