The federal government is spending more than $37,000 to revamp Balancing Rock Trail in Tiverton, N.S. The 2.5-kilometre trail, which features a 20-foot basalt column that formed an estimated 200-million years ago, is getting the makeover through a non-repayable contribution to the Municipality of Digby, according to a news release from the federal government. The Nova Scotia government is spending $18,990 on the project while the municipality is pitching in $6,283. The municipality will use the money to redesign the trail and the viewing platform. It will also improve accessibility and enhance safety. “Balancing Rock is an iconic image associated with Nova Scotia’s Bay of Fundy,” said David Ritcey, provincial minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, in the release. “The Province is helping ensure this popular trail remains safe, accessible and resilient to climate change. This work will help protect and enhance this unique destination for generations to come.” According to the release, Balancing Rock Trail attracts an estimated 10,000 visitors every year.
