N.S. releases latest numbers on Need a Family Practice Registry

The number of Nova Scotians in need of a primary care provider dropped by 930 during the month of November, but there are still more than 68,000 people on the waitlist.

Nova Scotia Health says, as of Dec. 1, there were 68,490 Nova Scotians on the Need a Family Practice Registry, down from 69,420 Nova Scotians on Nov. 1.

Roughly 6.5 per cent of the population is still on the registry.

“These numbers account for those newly added to the registry, those removed because they were attached to a family doctor or nurse practitioner, or those removed because they were found to no longer need a provider for a variety of reasons,” explained Nova Scotia Health in a news release.

The health authority says the number of people on the waitlist dropped by 41,966 between Jan. 1 and Dec. 1, 2025.

The next registry update is expected in early January.
