N.S. man facing charges after fleeing from police: Amherst Police Department

A 39-year-old Amherst, N.S., man is facing driving-related charges after police say he fled from officers.

The Amherst Police Department says an off-duty officer saw a man, who allegedly has a revoked driver’s license, driving in the area of South Albion Street in Amherst on Jan. 6.

Police activated emergency equipment to perform a vehicle stop on Victoria Street.

“The accused allegedly pulled to the side momentarily, and then fled at a high rate of speed out of town. As a result of the risk and weather conditions, Police terminated the pursuit,” reads a news release from the Amherst Police Department.

The following week, on Jan. 14, police say officers saw the man in the area of South Albion Street driving a vehicle with passengers.

“Police activated emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop and the accused allegedly fled from Police, driving in an erratic and dangerous and manner and at a high speed. As a result of the risk, police discontinued the pursuit,” reads the release.

Albert O’Blenis has been charged with:

• two counts of flight from police  
• dangerous driving  
• endangering a child

A warrant was issued for his arrest on March 18. On Monday, police received information about his whereabouts and arrested him. O’Blenis was held in custody overnight and issued multiple Summary Offense Tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act.

O’Blenis appeared in court on Tuesday in relation to the criminal charges and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to return to court on Thursday.
