The Nova Scotia RCMP has charged a 38-year-old man with sexual offences against youths who allegedly spent time at his home in Chester Basin. Police say they launched their investigation on July 13 after learning a youth who had been reported missing was staying with the man. “Through the investigation, officers learned that other youths had also spent time with the man, either at his home or on trips away from the area,” an RCMP news release reads. On Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at a Croft Road residence and arrested the man. They also seized electronic devices for examination. Matthew Joseph Mercer was charged with: Mercer appeared in court on Thursday and was remanded into custody until his next court date on Aug. 6. “Investigators believe there may be additional victims,” the release reads. “Anyone who believes they may’ve been victimized by Mercer is encouraged to contact police.” For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
