N.S. family doctor waitlist increases by more than 300

More than 300 people were added to Nova Scotia’s Need a Family Practice Registry last month.

On May 1, there were 60,193 Nova Scotians on the registry.

As of June 1, that number increased to 60,579 Nova Scotians.

“This number reflects the cumulative result of activity on the registry since its creation, including registrations, attachments to family doctor or nurse practitioner, and other updates to registration status over time,” reads a news release from Nova Scotia Health.

The Western Zone, which covers the Annapolis, Kings, Queens, Lunenburg and Yarmouth areas, continues to have the largest single amount of people on the waitlist, now with 18,639.

The percentage of the population on the registry is 5.5 per cent.

Nova Scotia Health says it will update the registry again early next month.
