The Nova Scotia government announced Thursday it’s spending $2.3M on a new program to help beef producers. The province says the Nova Scotia Beef Development Program will help producers invest in cattle, farm infrastructure and other improvements to increase herd size and improve production. “Every beef operation is different, so we wanted this program to give producers the flexibility to invest in projects that make sense for their farm,” said Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow in a news release. “When our farms grow, that means more business in rural communities and a stronger economy for Nova Scotia.” The program was developed with input from the beef industry and will be administered by Perennia, says the release. “Within Nova Scotia’s cattle industry, there are genuine opportunities for growth. This program gives producers flexible options to invest in their operations, increase production, and get more cattle to market,” said Dean Manning, beef producer and chair of the Nova Scotia Beef Initiative. Applications for the program are open until Dec. 11. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
