Nova Scotia doctor waitlist drops by nearly 1,000 people

The waitlist for a doctor in Nova Scotia dropped by nearly 1,000 people during the month of January.

There were 66,768 Nova Scotians on the Need a Family Practice Registry on Jan. 1.

As of Feb. 1, there are 65,790 Nova Scotians on the registry, representing a drop of 978 people.

Nova Scotia Health says the percentage of the population on the registry is 6.2 per cent.

“This number accounts for those newly added to the registry, those removed because they were attached to a provider (nurse practitioner or family doctor), or those removed because they were found to no longer need a provider for a variety of reasons,” reads a Tuesday news release from the health authority.

The registry will be updated again in early March.

Nova Scotia Health says enhanced Need a Family Practice Registry public reporting will begin in April using data from January onward. Basic monthly reporting will continue until then.
