Nova Scotia announced Monday that plans are underway for a new 104-space early learning and child-care centre on the Acadia University campus in Wolfville. The new centre is a partnership between the province and Acadia to offer spaces and programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. “This partnership between Acadia University and the Province means that more families will have access to child care,” said Brendan Maguire, minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “Our government is collaborating with partners like Acadia so that finding child care is not a barrier for Nova Scotian families to work.” Nova Scotia has signed a five-year extension to the Canada–Nova Scotia Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement and the Canada-Nova Scotia Early Learning and Child Care Agreement. The extended agreement will be in place until March 31, 2031. “Today’s announcement is great news for families in Wolfville. Adding to the over 7,000 child-care spots already announced in the province, these new spaces will further help reduce costs for parents,” said Kody Blois, member of Parliament for Kings-Hants, on behalf of Anna Gainey, Canada’s Secretary of State for Children and Youth. The Nova Scotia government previously announced similar plans to bring child-care centres to St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish and Cape Breton University in Sydney.
