A 30-year-old man from Pictou County has been arrested following a series of incidents in New Glasgow, N.S., on Wednesday evening. Emergency crews responded to a “series of arsons” at several businesses on East River Road. There was also a reported threat to the nearby Aberdeen Hospital, which police later clarified was an assault at the hospital. According to New Glasgow Police, a man “smashed a window at the Nova Scotia Health Authority building on Atlantic Drive and then proceeded to set fires at four businesses on East River Road.” Police say the man went on to assault a security guard with a broken glass bottle before fleeing the area on foot. “A preliminary investigation has determined that there were no injuries and that there is no ongoing threats to public safety,” reads a news release from New Glasgow Regional Police. Christian Anthony MacDonald was arrested in connection with the incidents and is charged with: MacDonald appeared in Pictou provincial court on Thursday morning and was remanded into custody. He’s set to appear in court again on Oct. 15. The investigation is ongoing. Police say more information will be released as it becomes available.
