Halifax Water advises some customers may experience higher than normal chlorine levels

Halifax Water is advising there may be “higher than normal chlorine levels” in the water for some customers.

The utility says the elevated chlorine levels may be present in the water distribution system near Princess Margaret Boulevard in Dartmouth, which means customers could temporarily notice the increase in their drinking water.

“If customers get a strong odour of chlorine from tap water, they are advised to let their COLD water run for 2 minutes or until it is no longer noticeable,” reads a news release from Halifax Water.

“If the odour persists, please wait a few hours and try running only the cold water again.”

The utility asks customers who notice the odour to contact its customer care centre at 902-420-9287.

Halifax Water says it is conducting sampling and is currently working to flush the system to address the issue.
