Castle Hill Park in Halifax will soon be much quieter as council has voted to remove a pickleball court amid numerous noise complaints. Halifax Council approved a motion to remove the pickleball court markings and nets from Castle Hill Park at a meeting on Tuesday. They also approved a motion to review sites as possible replacements for the pickleballs courts, with measures that could include sound barriers, in the 2025-2026 budget. A report from the municipality says residents near the court submitted noise complaints to city staff and the local councillor in 2023. Attempts to address the noise in 2024 were not successful. The report says Castle Hill Park currently has three pickleball courts and is surrounded by three residential properties (three multi-unit dwellings and 12 single-unit dwellings). “Pickleball noise complaints are becoming a growing issue across North America and many jurisdictions are now considering where pickleball courts are to be located to ensure noise levels are suitable for nearby residential uses,” the report reads.
