The federal government is adding roughly 400 military residential housing units in Halifax as part of a countrywide $1.4-billion investment over 20 years. The government says the builds will feature one- and two-bedroom apartments, although their exact locations have yet to be determined. “This initiative builds on the progress of the first phase of the construction program, which is well underway,” a news release reads. “CFB (Canadian Forces Bases) Halifax was identified as one of the nine locations with the most acute housing pressure and selected for Phase 1, which is adding 48 new RHUs (residential housing units) to the current portfolio.” The government says the increased housing capacity will allow them to recruit and retain members and support local economies.
