A wildfire on the eastern shore of Nova Scotia prompted an evacuation order on Thursday night. The fire in the Jacket Lake area was first reported at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. As of 11:35 a.m. on Friday, it has grown to an estimated 1,700 hectares and is out of control. Public safety officials issued an evacuation order for civic address 4315 Mooseland Rd. down to Highway 7 at 8 p.m. on Thursday, the order is still in place. “Evacuate right away,” the alert reads. “Follow designated evacuation routes and the direction of local authorities. “Do not delay.” Evacuees can register at evacuation centres at Musquodoboit Rural High at 11980 Highway 224 and at the Marine Drive Academy at 479 Church Point Rd. DNR says two helicopters and four fixed-wing water bombers are on site. Two additional fixed-wing water bombers from Newfoundland are working on the fire as well. Crews began working to contain the fire using ground resources before darkness fell on Wednesday. Crews returned to the scene Thursday morning “to assess the extent of the fire and continue containment efforts.” The public is being asked to avoid the area of Mooseland Road near sixth lake and follow any directions from emergency personnel. West Stoney Lake wildfire under control DNR crews and volunteer fire departments also responded to a fire in West Stoney Lake, Annapolis County. As of 6 p.m. on Thursday, the fire was under control, according to DNR. A helicopter that was on site has been released. At its peak, the fire was estimated to be five hectares.
