One man is dead and four others were injured in a collision that happened after police attempted a traffic stop in Nova Scotia’s Kings County. On Sunday around 1:50 a.m., an officer spotted a grey Honda Civic speeding through downtown Wolfville. According to RCMP, the officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued toward Grand Pré at a high speed. Police said while the officer was attempting the traffic stop, they were involved in a single-vehicle crash just outside Wolfville. The officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Minutes later, at 1:53 a.m., police, EHS, and fire services were dispatched to a collision on Highway 1 in Grand Pré. Police said when officers arrived, they found that the grey Honda Civic had left the roadway and gone over an embankment. Five people were in the car at the time. An 18-year-old man from Prospect Bay was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the three other occupants were taken to hospital by EHS. A collision reconstructionist attended both crash locations and the investigation is ongoing. RCMP said the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) will review preliminary evidence to determine whether this matter falls within its mandate for investigation. The independent police oversight agency is responsible for conducting investigations into incidents involving death or serious injuries that may have resulted from the actions of a police officer. Police are asking anyone who witnessed either collision or who may have any video footage of them to call the Kings District RCMP at 902-679-5555.
