The government of New Brunswick along with federal and municipal governments are spending $7.4 million towards new water infrastructure in Tracadie. The new infrastructure will support the building of more homes in the area. “We’re taking action to make sure more New Brunswickers have a place to call home,” said Premier Susan Holt. “This funding is a crucial step toward supporting housing development and ensuring residents have reliable access to safe drinking water. It’s about building stronger communities and a better future for everyone in the region.” The project involves drilling a new well, installing a manganese treatment system and building a two-kilometre water pipeline, a news release from the province said. The pipeline will run from the Alderwood area to the regional municipality limits. The infrastructure upgrades will support the development of 300 new housing units. The project is funded through a federal-provincial agreement to increase housing availability in order to meet population growth. “Partnering with New Brunswick, we’re delivering the essential infrastructure needed to help get more housing projects off the ground to support a growing population in Tracadie,” said Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier. “By working with other levels of government and the private sector, we will drive innovation in the homebuilding industry to build and accelerate the delivery of more affordable homes for Canadians.” The Regional Development Corporation is providing over $2.4 million towards the project through the provincial government. Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada is contributing over $3.7 million and the Tracadie municipality is providing over $1.2 million. “Investing in a new source of drinking water means enabling thoughtful densification and equitable access to housing for future generations,” said Tracadie Mayor Denis Losier. “We are not only ensuring the safety and health of our citizens, but also the conditions necessary for sustainable, resilient and inclusive growth.” For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
