Police in New Brunswick are searching for the driver of a vehicle after a hit and run on the Trans-Canada Highway Thursday morning. Acting Sgt. Mathieu Daigle of the RCMP’s Sackviile detachment said a pedestrian is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck on the westbound lane of Highway 2 around 5 a.m. The crash occurred just west of Sackville. “It appears to be a hit and run at this point in time,” said Daigle. Daigle wouldn’t say if the person who was struck was a man or a woman, but said the crash happened near a construction zone. A media release will likely be sent out when police have more information to share, Daigle said. The RCMP sent an advisory on social media early Thursday morning warning motorists of delays in the area. Traffic was diverted to a rural road while the investigation was underway. Police re-opened the westbound lanes to traffic before noon. Daigle said the RCMP are asking the public for any information regarding the crash.
