NB Power is seeking a 15-year partnership to develop battery energy storage systems to support the province’s transition to clean energy. The power utility’s request for expressions of interest notes it is seeking battery storage that will total 50MW for roughly four hours, which will provide flexibility to manage intermittent solar and wind resources. “We are committed to delivering cleaner energy without placing undue upward pressure on customer rates,” said Lori Clark, president and CEO of NB Power, in a news release. “While all new infrastructure is costly, we are actively looking for solutions that minimize risk and provide the lowest long-term price.” NB Power says a successful applicant will be required to participate in a 15-year contract to ensure the battery storage solutions are financially responsible.
